The MOCAD New Wave is an innovative auxiliary group dedicated to furthering MOCAD's Mission by engaging young professionals and art enthusiasts, actively contributing to increasing public awareness of MOCAD and promoting contemporary art in our community.The competition is open to all students and those who have graduated within the last two years, and will allow the winner an opportunity to enhance their portfolio by designing an official logo for a distinguished art institution. The selected logo will be featured on all promotional materials for the New Wave in the future, and have a prominent place on this website.
In addition to special recognition as the New Wave Logo Competition Winner on our website, the winning designer will also receive one copy of every MOCAD publication in print, a $100 gift certificate to the MOCAD Store, a one-year MOCAD Membership, and a MOCAD t-shirt. Ten finalists will also be recognized on the website. Deadline for submissions is April 10.

Create Magazine is inviting students studying the creative industries from across the nation to enter the 2008 Create Awards - one of the top creative competitions for professionals and students in advertising, film and video, motion graphics, graphic communication, photography, printing, interactive media, and copywriting.
The 2008 Create Awards (http://www.thecreateawards.com) has once again doubled its prize pool from last year. More than $125K worth of prizes are up for grabs including the latest in software and hardware from leading creative industry manufacturers is up for grabs, not to mention national print and online exposure in Create Magazine.

The work entered should be understood as a portrait in the broadest sense. It may be a traditional, representational work or it may be a more experimental portrait, but it must be based on the artist's direct contact with any living individual(s). Self-portraits will be accepted.
Each artist may enter only one portrait, and it must have been completed after January 1, 2007. Entries will be accepted June 2 - July 31, 2008.
Entries will be accepted in all visual arts media, including, but not restricted to painting, drawing and watercolor, sculpture, weaving, ceramics, photography, prints, video, film, and digital animation. Paintings, drawings, pastels, and watercolors should be framed.

Logo Contest
The purpose of this competition is to select the logo for the University of Windsor Institute for Diagnostic Imaging Research. The logo will be used in all communication materials related to this Institute.

The Winterhouse Awards for Design Writing & Criticism seek to increase the understanding and appreciation of design, both within the profession and throughout American life. A program of AIGA, these annual awards have been founded by Jessica Helfand and William Drenttel of the Winterhouse Institute to recognize excellence in writing about design and encourage the development of young voices in design writing, commentary and criticism.
Submissions for the 2008 awards may be entered now through June 2, 2008.

Writing award of $10,000
Open to writers, critics, scholars, historians, journalists and designers and given for a body of work.

As an introduction to a series of events that will unfold over the next two years, AIGA Detroit proudly presents the Celebrate Michigan Design Poster Competition. We encourage you to share your thoughts, experiences and ideas about the future of design in our state. There are many stories to tell. This competition is a chance to give a voice to the design community by creating a poster showcasing the positive power of design and its influence on technology, culture and society.

Communication Arts magazine announces the deadline for their 49th Illustration Competition--March 11, 2008
Enter the most prestigious competition for creativity in illustration, the 49th annual Communication Arts Illustration Competition. Any illustration first printed or produced between March 14, 2007 and March 11, 2008 is eligible.
Selected by a nationally representative jury of distinguished designers, art directors and illustrators, the winning entries will be published in the July 2008 Illustration Annual. Over 70,000 copies of the Illustration Annual will be distributed worldwide, assuring important exposure to the creators of this outstanding work.

Are you a “LEGO maniac?” Then consider being part of an event at Dearborn’s Snow Branch Library: the Lego Design Challenge.
The event is open to individuals ages two through adult, as well as families and groups. Entries will be accepted during the registration period of February 11-21. There is a limit of one entry per person. In addition, a family or group may submit one entry.
